Safety recalls 1

SEAT BELTS:PRETENSIONER

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2011-2014 Chrysler 200, 2010 Chrysler Sebring, 2010-2012 Dodge Caliber and 2010-2014 Jeep Patriot, Compass and Dodge Avenger vehicles. The Occupant Restraint Control (OCR) module may short circuit, preventing the frontal air bags, seat belt pretensioners, and side air bags from deploying in the event of a crash.

Remedy: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will replace the OCR, free of charge. Interim letters informing owners that parts are not available yet were mailed on October 26, 2016. The recall began on August 15, 2017. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number

Common problems & what to inspect

Based on 120 owner complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2013 Jeep Patriot, here are the most-reported problem areas — and exactly what to check before you buy.

Power Train 3 reports

🔍 Drive through every gear: watch for slipping, hard or delayed shifts, and shudder. Check for transmission/driveline leaks and noises.

Engine 3 reports

🔍 Listen for knocks or ticking, check for leaks and blue/white exhaust smoke, and make sure it doesn't overheat. No check-engine light should be on.

Seats 2 reports

🔍 Have a trusted mechanic inspect this system as part of a pre-purchase inspection.

Air Bags 2 reports

🔍 Confirm the airbag light turns on then off at startup — if it stays lit there's a fault (costly, and a safety risk). Check for signs of prior deployment.

Exterior Lighting 2 reports

🔍 Confirm all headlights, brake lights, turn signals and reverse lights work, with no moisture inside the housings.

Seat Belts 1 report

🔍 Check that every belt latches, retracts and locks under a sharp tug, and that none are frayed.

The passenger headrest AHR has deployed a couple years ago while parked. I tried working with the dealer for the past year to get it fixed under a recall. The dealer said it was covered for a limited time but no longer is covered. I do not understand why that is. It seems this should be covered under a recall and is a safety issue.
